We like to meet local artists and Crafts folks, we share ideas, techniques and just general conversation. It happens that recently we met with a couple that are both artist and craftsman. Though this couple have not been creating full time lately, we were very fortunate to have been able to talk them into allowing us to have some of their items for posting on the site.
Sarah Hughes is the artist in this couple and has had the opportunity to study art in the Middle East, which has provided a very unique perspective, she has traveled through Europe and the Far East, gaining experiences that have culminated in the type of art work she is sharing with us. She is skilled in Watercolor, Pen and Ink and Acrylics. We have posted those pieces, done in acrylics, she has allowed us to share and hope in the near future she will give us this chance again as she creates further pieces.
David Hughes is the Craftsman in the couple, having attained a level of Master Woodworker from a renowned apprenticeship. He has only allowed us to represent one of his pieces for the time being as he is not wanting to mass produce so he can focus on each individual piece and his family. The piece we have is fashioned after the design techniques of the Master Sam Maloof (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Maloof). As you will notice, the sweeping design, joinery and quality of wood are exceptional, keeping with the Maloof tradition. As with Sarah we hope to be able to collaborate with David to present more works.
